Case study: TasteQ
TasteQ had gained traction in South Korea, but was entering the U.S. with a technical pitch and positioning that needed to gain validation.
Over 8 weeks, the team structured an end-to-end comms system to enter the market confidently.

Overview
Founder type: Technical founding team entering an established category with a tech innovation.
Challenge: TasteQ was unsure whether its South Korean go-to-market or U.S. positioning would compel Shopify merchants.
Solution: Validate the market, then use the findings to specify the buyer, build segment-specific messaging, and structure the system.
Results: 5 strategic deliverables, 3 defined U.S. segments, published messaging, and a scored pipeline replacing a 2-state tracker.
Outcome: The team left with a U.S. go-to-market foundation designed to be operated and tested independently.

challenge
“We were not sure whether our brand message was properly aligned with our target market and audience.” — Lina Moon, Director, TasteQ
TasteQ had hundreds of buyers in South Korea, but its U.S. entry was still largely being tested.
The team was using technology-led pitches and trying to narrow the U.S. buyer profile with a quantified way to qualify opportunities. It was difficult to refine the message with awareness regarding market context and positioning.

“The process was designed to leave TasteQ with insights and frameworks that could continue to benefit us beyond the project.”
The work followed a sequence: validate demand, position before messaging, and translate messaging into a go-to-market comms system.
Direct merchant interviews and 37+ tradeshow conversations informed a refined ICP and 3 priority segments. Those findings shaped outcome-led messaging, a structured pipeline, and a qualification model.
Finally, the new messaging was published and outreach moved into testing before the Handoff.

results
“TasteQ would not have been able to validate our positioning or execute effective marketing activities without a clear and accurate brand message.”
TasteQ gained an integrated comms system:
5 strategic deliverables were completed across the 8-week engagement.
3 U.S. segments received dedicated, outcome-led messaging frameworks.
A two-state lead tracker was replaced by a structured, multi-stage pipeline.
The team adopted a consistent, tailored 0–9 B.A.N. qualification rubric across segments.
"During the process of aligning the design and message, the emphasis placed on brand consistency and customer value (particularly when working on the big picture before integrating the detailed messages) is proving helpful to me when designing other marketing assets." — Lucia Kim, Global Marketing Manager, TasteQ
The new messaging became published on TasteQ's Shopify App Store listing as part of the rebrand so A/B campaign testing could begin.

Before
Technology-led pitches were used across prospects and sectors.
The U.S. buyer profile and qualification criteria were broad.
Leads were tracked as “Saved” or “Sent,” with no consistent scoring.

3 segment-specific, outcome-led messaging frameworks gave the team clearer ways to pitch buyers.
A defined ICP was grounded in merchant and prospect pitches.
A structured, multi-stage pipeline and 0–9 B.A.N. rubric created a shared qualification process.
An engaged Engagement
"CJ’s professionalism throughout the two-month engagement also gave TasteQ team an opportunity to step back and reflect on our market and business from a broader perspective. More importantly, it gave us a strong sense of confidence and support knowing that there was TerraLoop genuinely invested in this process and making a sincere effort to help TasteQ succeed. I am truly grateful for that."

The work was designed as a connected system:
Evidence before opinion: Positioning and messaging were grounded in interviews, conversations, and market feedback.
Deliberate sequencing: Each stage informed the next, reducing the risk of building strategy on untested assumptions.
Built for independence: Decision filters, segment playbooks, and qualification criteria were designed for the team to use without ongoing outside judgment.
Tested in market: The work moved beyond strategy documents, with messaging deployed and outreach to start testing.

"A strong product in one market does not automatically create a strong go-to-market motion in another. Before scaling the message, validate who the buyer is, what they value, and how they make decisions."
Rebrand Your Startup With Clarity
Thinking of waiting?: "What impressed me most was the consistency of CJ’s energy and commitment throughout the project. Even as we went through extensive analysis, interpretation, and re-interpretation of the data and insights to arrive at the final outcomes, you maintained the same level of engagement, focus, and dedication from beginning to end. I truly appreciated that. Now, we will take the lessons and outcomes from this project and put them into practice to build a stronger and more solid position for TasteQ in the market." — Lina Moon, Director, TasteQ
